Alfagrog is a porous foamed ceramic material, which is lightweight, strong and inert. Its high surface area makes it the natural choice for colonisation by micro-organisms in biological filtration systems resulting in cleaner water.
Alfacoral is a decorative aquarium material which creates an attractive, natural looking underwater environment which is similar in appearance to real coral.

Benefits of Alfagrog over other filter media:
The Alfagrog range of porous ceramic filter media is made under controlled conditions in Staffordshire, UK.
Selected clays and raw materials are rapidly sintered at high temperature to produce a foamed ceramic porous mass, which is crushed and sieved to a convenient particle size.
Alfagrog is available in a wide range of sizes giving the end user optimum media surface area in varying water flow rates.
The manufacturing process ensures that no substances are present to adversely affect the health of fish or plants. The material is pH neutral and can be used in both freshwater and marine applications.
The key to effective biological filtration is choosing media with the highest surface area possible to allow beneficial bacteria to colonise and remove waste from the water. Alfagrog has an extremely high surface area by volume compared with other types of filter media on the market.
The bar chart below shows that in theory approximately 20 times more volume of foam would be required to attain the same level of filtration as Alfagrog E40 and almost 40 times as much as Alfagrog E25. This means a smaller filtration unit can be used when using Alfagrog to attain the same results as a much larger unit filled with inferior and often more expensive filter media.

Alfagrog is used in biological filtration systems in large scale aquaculture farms and is sold to many customers for this purpose worldwide. For such large amounts Alfagrog can be packed in bulk bags, loose bulk or other packing methods to suit requirements.
Alfagrog can also be used as decorative aquatic gravel, aquarium landscaping and in a wide variety of applications. Alfagrog is produced in a wide range of sizes, contact us for more information.
Our Alfacoral product is similar to Alfagrog but fired at a higher temperature to produce attractive colours and appearance.
The extraction of live rock and coral is causing extensive environmental problems in oceans around the world. Large-scale removal of live rock and coral can destroy habitat for fish and marine invertebrates, can undermine the structure of coral reefs, and can lead to increased underwater erosion. Alfacoral is the responsible alternative to alleviate this damaging practice.
It is lightweight and highly porous displacing a minimum amount of water and is suitable for both marine and freshwater situations. Its many cavities make it highly suitable for colonisation by marine organisms, which help to improve water quality.
Alfacoral is manufactured in the UK under strict quality conditions, it comes in a multitude of shapes and sizes and is available worldwide.
Alfacoral and Alfagrog are manufactured in the U.K. by sintering selected fireclays at very high temperatures, resulting in a foamed ceramic porous mass. By crushing and screening the material a range of grain sizes are produced.
